Schools win computers in national promotion

The tiny country schools of Orautoha and Rangataua were recipients of computers in the recent New World 'Acorns for Schools '93' promotion. With a role of just 12 pupils, Orautoha School forwarded till receipts totalling nearly $50,000, which when divided by the school's role (which numbered 14 when the contest began), averaged approximately $3,500 per child.

Orautoha was placed third in the line-up of North Island schools that took part in the promotion. Rangataua School was placed in the top 110 schools and received one computer. Eleven schools from the southern region of the North Island featured in the top 25 placings, in a promotion that was originally intended solely for schools in the northern half of the North Island.
