Turoa Tumblers show form

Dwayne Marsh and Shelly Gotlieb provided the individual highlights from the Manawatu/ Wanganui Gymnastics Open Championships held in Wanganui over Queen's Birthday Weekend. The Wanganui Motors Turoa Tumblers Falcons all performed well in the first major competition of the year. The level

three girls of Krystal Abbott, Caroline Mastrovich and Louisa McKay-Wood found themselves competing against 55 other girls. Louisa scored 8.93 on the beam to place first on this apparatus - a great result. The level four team of Fiona Lynch, Nolanna Marsh, Rebecca Lind and Cassie Nation had 34 in their grade and all did really well, with scores averaging over 7.5 per apparatus. Eileen Voon and Sarah Lind in level five averaged eight out of 10 for their five events, with Eileen scoring a 9.0 on the vault for a third placing on this

apparatus. A nine of course is nearly perfect at this level. In level six, Shelly Gotlieb had an extremely consistent competition. She placed third on the floor but with her five scores totalling 41.86, Shelly gained second overall and combined in a composite team to win the team gold. On Saturday, Dwayne Marsh led the level five boys team to a team gold. Steven Sue in his first level five competition was third on the floor. Brian Hays in his last competition before travelling to the U.S.A., and Cory Saunders, scored very well but

Dwayne stole the show with first on the floor, vault, rings and pommel horse and not surprisingly, first overall. George Williams and Brad Hays both competed well in a 15 gymnast field. The competition in this grade was very strong, but our boys only need to tighten up body positions to start scoring really well. On 4 July the Falcons travel to Palmerston North for their next competition, They warm up for this with a display at 1.45pm on 18 June at Raetihi Primary School. All interested parents are welcome to attend.
