Counties beat Waiouru

BY

OSSIE

Counties who desperately needed a win after their previous 41-0 loss last weekend to Raetihi went out determined to beat new-comers Waiouru. Strong runs from prop Boo Tutauha and centre Ngaire Tamati were the highlight of the Counties attack. Other players who had ,good games for Counties were: in the

forwards Elaine Tutauha and in the backs winger Cala Docherty with many strong runs. The pick of the Waiouru players were number eight Teresa Svenson and lock Trish Leaborn who both defended well. In the backs winger Dianne McGregor made some strong runs. Mickey Hansen played well at

half-back especially whilst under a lot of Counties pressure. Skipper Mellisa Brown did heaps of covering on defence and attack. Unfortunately Waiouru failed to finish off a lot of good work. Waiouru will have to get more hungry in order to have their first win. However this game was a much improved effort from their previous 67-0 loss to Marist. Scores were: Counties 42; Boo Tutauhu (3); Ngaire Tamati (2); Hine Sullivan, Elaine Tutauhu and Cala Docherty all had tries and Boo Tutahu had one conversion. Waiouru 0.
