Scottish cattle group meets

Raetihi will be hosting a meeting of the Galloway Cattle Society of New Zealand next week. The meeting will incorporate a farm visit to David Waldron's property to view the distinctive Belted Galloway cattle. David breeds belties as they are highly suited to the cold; having a double hair coat which insulates the animal. The breed originates from Galloway in

South West Scotland where it thrives in mountainous snowladen areas. The society membefs will discuss the merits of this beef breed, together with marketing and export opportunities for live animals. In April this year, 26 head of belted, black and dun Galloways were exported from Auckland to Germany where the hardly beasts have been in demand since the early 1960's.
