Ohakune logo man wins again
Ohakune's Vince Pakinga has won the Ruapehu Construction Limited's 'Design a Logo' competition, adding to his growing list of logo designing competition wins. Judges Mark Ebrey and Paul Herbert considered Mr Pakinga's most workable of the 50 plus designs entered by more than 30 entrants. The design is based on a series of lines that represent roads and could be used in a variety of formats. "Some of the other entries also showed a lot of flair, but they could not be used in the full range of applications that a logo needs to be used," Mr Ebrey said. "What we had to consider was that the design would be used as a single colour, single column logo in newspaper advertising, as well as fleet markings. "We also felt the best logo was one that could
make a statement using a minimum of colours, so as to make its use on a variety of stationery cost effective." The winning student design was done by Wayne Smith, a pupil of Taumarunui High School - one of 16 students entries received. "Wayne's design was the only one to focus on a human approach, rather than the more expected icons of mountain and machinery. When it is all boiled down, an organisation's service values are determined by its people - not its plant or equipment." Discussions are now to be held between Ruapehu Construction Limited and the judges to decide whether the winning designs can be used, or to develop further ideas. Mr Pakinga wins $200 and Taumarunui High School gets $100 for Wayne's efforts.
