Prize bull pride of breeder
Waimarino Hereford Bull breeder Pat O 'Neill is understandably proud of his young champion, 'Okahu Genius'. At just two and a half years of age the bull has won a string of awards, not the least being named the Junior Champion, Grand Champion and Supreme Breed Champion of this year's Royal Easter Show of Champions in Auckland.
Past awards include Junior Champion and second overall of all breeds at the 1991 Manawatu Royal Show; in 1992 he took the same title, as well as Reserve Male Champion at Te Kuiti. Mr O'Neill's Okahu Stud traces 46 years, founded by selected cows and heifers from the original Buchanan Mayfield Stud, begun in 1892. The line was formed
using the best New Zealand blood available and along with bulls imported from Australia,
can be traced back to the English Herd Book, with the exception of the progeny of some pre-
mium Poll Hereford bulls imported from the United States in the early 1950's.
