Jenna Parkes of Ohakune has reason to be thankful to the sailors of HMNZS Irirangi. She was one of the recipients of money raised at the HMNZS Irirangi Reunion Church service in 1992. Donations totalling $742 were made at the service to be presented as a grant to a local charity as directed by His Worship The Mayor of the Ruapehu District, Mr Garrick Workman. The mayor suggested two children with special needs, Jenna Parkes of Ohakune and Delanie Barnes of Waiouru. Five year old Jenna Parkes has a condition known as Lennox Gastaut Syndrome or uncontrollable epilepsy. This means she suffers from five different typ>es of epilepsy including drop seizures and myoclonic jerks of the limbs. At a ceremony held at Irirangi on Monday last week Jenna's family were presented with a cheque for $371 towards the cost of heavily padding her clothes.
