Ruapehu is many different things to many different people, witfet a vast range of activities available forholfl^'fun. Skiing is thc most obvious, with two of New Zealand's top commercial skiiields gracing the flanks m magnificent Mt Ruapehu, plus the friendly Tukino club field tucked away on the south eastern slopes. Challenging adventure is available for the serious mountaineer and back^country skier or snowboarder (see photo at top - 'boarding into Ruapehu's huge crater) and safe adventure is available for families at Wha^ppaband T uroa'j^beginner ski slopes. And all types in between can have their day on the slopes, There's space for the fashion conscious "see aund be seen" types who like to grace the slopes in the latest gear. Snowboarders
sure about shredding can find 'frozen wave' faces for their fun, and twoplankers can cruise on the groomed IP^stes, or go exploring through Ruapehu's off-trail gullies, bowls, and ridges. There's steep and deep stuff, long cruise runs, and places to go just for the sake of being there and taking in the views. Off the mountain there's day-time activities including caving, horse riding, mountain and bush walks, canoeing, rafting, golf, grass skiing, heated pools, jet boating, mountain biking, roller blading, rock climbing & mountairieering, tennis, trout fishing, flying fox and war games. Night time has loads in store, with a whole range of restaurants, bars and dance places to check out.
