New life for King's Court
Ohakune's King's Court Lodge is enjoying a new lease of life, thanks to some loving restoration by its new owners. Built in 1906, the grace and elegance of the era is still intact in 1993, with rich furnishings and drapes in harmony alongside modern contrivances. Antique black and white photographs greet guests in the freshly painted entrance hall, with the theme carried through to
other areas. Open fireplaces welcome visitors into the new-look bar room throughout the ground floor, through to exterior and again in the adjacent cabaret room, with an "overall feeling of comfort and style. The lodge has benefitted from improved lighting inside and out, from a thousand fairy lights festooned in trees at the entrance, to stylish glass and brass chandeliers
security lights for guests. The lodge has retained its popular medieval banquet room where private functions of up to 30 guests may be catered. Retained too is the television lounge and games room, popular with the younger set. Guests and visitors need abide by just two rules; one pertaining to suitable attire and the other to suitable behaviour. Kings Court Lodge will remain open as an
accommodation house for 12 months of the year and will open its restaurant and bar facilities to the public every Wednesday and Saturday night. Bookings for functions may also be made by phoning (06) 385 8648. Local contractors were employed to undertake repairs and renovations to the lodge and were praised by the owners for their workmanship and reliability.
