Waiouru women well-beaten

BY

OSSIE

New team Waiouru had their first taste of hardout rugby against a welldrilled Marist side goingdown gallantly 67-0. Marist with two New Zealand representatives and eight Wanganui representatives simply outclassed a naive Waiouru side with sheer pace and game-knowledge. Marist centre Pauline O'Leary showed why she is a current New Zealand repre-

sentative with an impressive display of pace and strength to score a hat-trick of tries. Newcomer Mary Kailahi, who played at number eight also scored a hattrick of tries on her debut with some strong-run-ning and good pace. She showed some good skills that could give her a representative jersey. Other try scorers were Ainsley Adlam, Carey Stead, Dianne Watkins, Nikki Inwood and ex-Ohakune player Norts Wilson. Other players, who stood-out for Marist were second-five Vicky Pearce who played a brilliant first-game and full-back Dianne Watkins. Waiouru display ed the basic skills of ball-han-dling and tackling and must be commended for not giving up the chase.

Players who impressed from Waiouru were Skipper Mellissa Brown who showed good leader-ship-skills and some very tactical-kicking and ' full-back Karen Fyfe who with good sound-tack-ling and covering-de-fence, thoroughly deserved her award as player of the day. Their next match is against Wanganui Counties at Ohakune on 23 May. Marist 67, Pauline O'Leary 3, Mary Kailahi 3, Ainsley Adlam, Caren Stead, Dianne Watkins, Nikki Inwood and Norts Wilson trys, Rachael Munn 6 conversions. Ohakune had the bye this round and will host the next tournament on Sunday 23 May and have their first game against an in-form Raetihi.
