Hard time for Raetihi

Raetihi Seniors played another home game on Saturday 1 May against Wanganui Counties which resulted in an unfortunate loss for Raetihi with the full time score 79-8 to Wanganui Counties. Raetihi kicked off and within the first five minutes Wanganui Counties had their first try which was scored by number 1 1 Billy Nepia. The try was not converted. Five minutes later Wanganui Counties fullback Leroy Matthews scored a try which was converted bringing the score to 120. Raetihi managed to keep Wanganui Counties at bay for the next 15 minutes then Billy Nepia scored another try which again was not converted, Five minutes later Raetihi had their first and only try, by John Heron, which was not converted, bringing the score to 195 after 30 minutes of playing. Straight after Raetihi 's try Wanganui Counties number 12 Mark Davis retaliated by scoring a try which was converted.
Within the remaining 10 minutes of the first half Wanganui Counties scored two more tries, one by number 10 Jerome Nahona and the other by Kainui Parkinson. Raetihi's number 10 Darren McDonnell kicked a penalty bringing the half time score to 41-8 with Wanganui Counties having scored seven tries and three conversions and Raetihi one try and one penalty. In the first 20 minutes of the second half Billy Nepia scored another try which was not converted and Mark Davis scored two tries both of which were converted. Raetihi managed to keep Wanganui Counties from scoring for the next 10 minutes of the game but in the remaining 10 minutes of the game Wanganui Counties scored another three tries one each to Billy Nepia, Mark Davis and number seven Jason Connors and two of the three tries were converted bringing the full-time score to 798 to Wanganui Counties. Spectators claimed Wanganui Counties did a lot of forward passes
throughout the game which went unnoticed bj the referee but they had a faster back-line than Raetihi and both teams did a lot of knock-ons and Raetihi missed a lot of tackles. Waimarino darts A doubles night was played on 27 April with two ladies taking out 1st place. Both played excellent darts. Congratulations to Dawn Wall and Lois Penning for winning all eight games. Runners-up were Greg Windle and Stephen Wallace. Wooden spoon went to Lyn Drink water and Cathy McLean. Highest start went to Greg Windle with 160; highest score to Ray Wall with 180 and highest finish to Don Robinson with 115.
