Raetihi pupils honour ANZAC's by Shelly of RIC Raetihi school gathered to learn about Anzac Day last Friday which was 'Poppy Day'. Raetihi Primary School principal Neil Hammond welcomed everyone in Maori and introduced the guest to the assembly. Guest speaker, John Dunbar, a Staff Sergeant from Waiouru, explained to the children what Anzac Day represented and what it was all about. Among the guests were mayor Garrick Workman, Mike Maxwell, two members of the RSA, Ray Littlewood (who went to Raetihi Primary from 1919-1926) and Rohan Cuff. Rohan Kui, grandson of Rohan Cuff, read an extract to the assembly from the 'The Soldier'. This year the Anzac Day assembly was held in the school hall due to the cold. In previous years the assembly has been held outside. The children sang a song about Raetihi in Maori called 'Ahakoa'. They also sang 'God Defend New Zealand'.
