Farewell from kindergarten

Wellington - bound Ohakune Kindergarten teacher Lyn Pope, was given an emotional sendoff by staff, parents and children last week. Lyn, a popular member of the Ohakune

"team", left the Waimarino after a period of eight years to take up a relieving position at Miramar Kindergarten. Lyn spent three years in a senior position at Waiouru Kindergarten and another three years at

Raetihi' s Pre-school before joining Ohakune Kindergarten staff members Yvonne Trigell and Shirley ' Pepene, who have some fond memories of the partnership. A highlight for staff and parents alike was the

release of the regular kindergarten newsletters, testimony of Lyn's "unique" spelling ability - Another trademark was the Batman-style cape and tights seen with increasing regularity on

the ski slopes, and an alarmingly wobbly mountain bike observed on occasion during the wee hours in the vicjmity of Burns Street. In one of her now infamous newsletters Lyn thanked parents, children

and staff for their support, honesty and trust during her time in the Waimarino. "Kindergarten teaching can't really happen unless those three things are there", she said. Lyn enthusiastically

embraced the Waimarino's strong Maori culture, with one of the highlights being among the Iwi who made last year's Tirahoewaka or "Spiritual Journey", down the Whanganui River.
