Raetihi info centre move okayed

Moving the Raetihi Information Centre to the council's offices was supported by the Waimarino Community Board at their meeting last week. The board was asked to consider a proposal that would see the centre moved to the old Raetihi Borough Council offices1 board room. Initially board member Bob Peck said he was opposed to the move because the present site was much better. He felt that it would be hard to draw visitors to the other end of town to the council offices. Ruapehu mayor Garrick Workman said the new site would be good because it was close to banks, toilets, NZ Post and other facilities. The move would also make the council's service centre more viable. He said the Museum Society were not prepared to take on the information centre, as had been suggested. After hearing that there were no guarantees that the present building would continue to be available and other points in favour of the move, Mr Peck moved that the board endorse the idea.
