Weekend golf touney held

The combined W aimarino/T uroa Tournament came out of recess on Saturday and could only be described as an outstanding success. One of the original sponsors, Noel Byford, returned to play nine holes and other visitors came from as far afield as Auckland and Taranaki. The nine hole Turoa Trophy was won by Gary Allerby who equalled the course record with a gross 27. Other results are as follows: Ladies - 27 hole gross Z Harold 118; 27 hole nett J Taylor 951/2 Chan Cup; 27 hole nett rurmerup K Greenwood; 18 hole stableford F Geraghty 38, N Winter 36, P Brown 35, G Fraser 35. Men - 27 Gross K Herewini 1G5 Byford's Trophy; 27 hole gross runner-up T Frederick Jnr; 27 hole nett M Hays Security and General Trophy, runner-up G Temiha, 3rd J Pepene, 4th D Herewini; 18 hole stableford P Goldfinch 40, B Harris 39, A Condon 39, P Roundtree 39. Closest to pin: Men - P Roundtree. Ladies - H Cranston. Team winners for hidden hole were: P Beckett, S Burling, A Condon and P Roundtree. Major sponsors were Ohakune New World and nearest the pin by Harcourts Real Estate, with other prizes being donated by local business people.
