Chimney warning
by
David of RIC
With the arrival of the cold weather, the Raetihi Fire Brigade once again wishes to remind people of the risks to property and life of chimney fires. A chimney fire is a serious threat to a house, in that the burning debris from the chimney can both set the roof of the house it is attached to alight or a neighbouring
property. Also, the fire can spread into the roof of the house and the ceiling material of> the kitchen, which is a very difficult place for a Fire to be put out without a lot of damage being done. It is therefore a good move to have chimneys cleaned before winter sets in and at least once during the time it is used in the cold weather.
