Diving success
Four divers and their coach, Cynthia Binzegger, attended the National age group and Open Diving Championships in Wellington from 12 to 15 March, with distinction. Samuel Arahanga and Ashley Brown, diving at their first Nationals in the Boys 13 years and under age group, 1 metre springboard event, performed extremely well in tough company, with Ashley winning the bronze medal for his very fine effort. Both boys
showed they have heaps of talent that can be developed. Kerri Allerby, diving in the Girls 13 years and under age group, 1 metre springboard event, also dived extremely well in a very close competition, winning the bronze medal with a personalbest score. She also increased her personal-best score in the 3 metre springboard event, for a 5 th placing. Tina Mott, diving in the 14-15 years age group, 1 metre and 3 metre, also dived well in
both competitions. The general comment from all those attending the Nationals, was of great admiration for our children, whose facilities and length of season are a far cry from those in the main centres with allyear training. Mrs Binzegger is to be congratulated for her dedication to this sport and all those involved look forward to the covering of the Raetihi Memorial Baths, perhaps giving our divers better conditions in which to train.
