REAP targets for 1993
Parenting, education and personal development are the two areas of adult education that Ruapehu Rural Education Activities Programme Inc (REAP) will target in 1 993. REAP's Community Education Officer, Eliz Mortland, has been directed by the management council to put resources into these areas in recognition of the increased stresses on parents in today's society. Two twenty-hour courses will be promoted
within the region; Positive Parenting and Positive Person. Where possible Eliz will co-or-dinate with high schools or the Wanganui Regional Community Polytechnic to offer the courses. If necessary REAP will run them in more rural areas to ensure their availability to every person in the Ruapehu region. Fees will be subsidised and held to a minimum for 1993. Positive Parenting is a course developed by Kate
Birch which deals with the ups and downs of parenting in the 90 's. The course celebrates and supports the job that parents do, giving a host of practical suggestionS to make the work more successful and enjoyable. Positive Person is a more flexible course which develops participant's communication and assertive skills. Stress management, relaxation and goal setting are also covered. The end result for participants is better self esteem and
more confidence. The course is designed to be more flexible so the tutor can respond to the individual needs and interests of the students. In addition to being complete in themselves both courses can be credited as optional modules towards the Community Work Certificate. The Community Work Certificate has been developed as a first step in community work education and training. It is also designed to meet the needs of people working
in a voluntary capacity m any type of community organisation. For more information about the Community Work Certificate or the Positive Parenting or Positive Person courses planned for your area contact Eliz Mortland at the REAP office in Taihape, telephone 3880109. The Bulletin ad deadline is 5pm Fridays! Your co-operation would be appreciated!
