Raetihi school swims

Cold winds and grey skies were no barrier to excitement and achievement for the swimmers of the Raetihi Primary School, when their Sports day was held on 8 March. The programme was delayed a full week because of the weather, and even on the day itself changes were made to the normal proceedings. "All the junior races were held first, then the next grade and so on," said organiser Mrs Wiggins, "so that each group could finish all the races and get changed." The amount of activity caused by this change probably helped keep off the chills, although the water was described by Gordon Hammond, a competitor, as "warm". Once again the overall house points went to Gold House, with Green a
close second. Full results were: Junior girls championship: lst= Renee Scarrow and Krystal Brown; 3rd Carrie Donaldson. Intermediate girls championship: 1st Margaret Mowat; 2nd Deborah Donaldson; 3rd= Linda Graves and Nicola Shipper. Senior girls championship: 1st Rochelle TeHuia; 2nd Delphina Ruki. Junior boys championship: 1st Gordon Hammond; 2nd Christopher Journeaux. Intermediate boys championship: 1st Clay Winter; 2nd Kieran McDohough; 3rd Quentin Gordon. Senior boys championship: 1st Steven Hawira; 2nd Rohan Kui; 3rd= Robert Tapa and Brendan Morgan. House :csults: Gold House 171 points; Green House 159 points; Blue House 138 points; Red House 81 points.
