Raetihi bus links
by
David of RIC
To avoid the confusion caused by the Raetihi Information Centre becoming the Intercity Bus agency in Raetihi, the following is written to explain the timetable: Currently two services run through Raetihi; a north-bound bus going directly to Auckland via Taumarunui, Hamilton and Otahuhu, which is
scheduled to arrive in Raetihi at 1.55pm and a south-bound service to Bulls via Wanganui and Marton (where people can transfer to a Wellington-bound bus) which leaves Raetihi at 3.40pm. Both these services operate every day except Saturday." In order not to block main street traffic in town, the buses use two different stops so as not to have to turn around in
the street. The northbound bus stops outside the Information Centre and the south-bound bus stops in the council designated stop outside the Ritz Tearooms. Freight on these buses is currently collected by the Information Centre and can be picked up there. At present, no bus through Raetihi goes directly to Wellington, nor is there a bus to Rotorua.
For this, a bus can be arranged if travellers can get over to Waiouru. Bookings for buses of all the above destinations, but not trains or ferries, can be obtained at the Raetihi Information Centre. Due to Intercity rules, bookings should be made at least one and a half hours before the time of the bus's arrival. The centre takes bookings seven days a week.
