Top spot for motocross man

Ohakune man Tim Coutts, is determined to leave his mark on the very competitive world of motocross. Tim, 26, emerged third overall at this year's New

Zealand National Motocross Championships - a total of 10 races held at three locations in as many weeks. Competing at the same level last year, in

the intermediate class (over 200cc), he was placed 12th overall. Next year's championships will see him competing in the expert class. From a background of

motorbikes, riding farm bikes on the family 's farm in Masterton as a teenager, it was a natural progression to competitive motocross. Tim has competed both nationally and overseas, representing New Zealand at the World Championships in Australia where he received a bronze medal. Surviving the six day enduro was "tough" he said, with competitors completing a gruelling eight hours a day over some of New South Wales' harshest off-road areas. He and his KTM 250 covered more than 1600km during the event. Next weekend he intends to compete at New Zealand's "Golden Handlebars", held at Manfield Raceway. A relatively new event on the national circuit, competitors take part in 14 events that includes night racing. Tim will be aiming to better last year's placing of 14th at the event. Another goal is to compete in the World Enduro Championships

to be held in the United i States later this year. 1 Training and fine-tun- , ing his skill is an ongo- i ing challenge. This week 1 he travels to New 1 Plymouth to attend an in- , tensive two day instruc- | tion course in motocross, i run by some of 1 Australasia's top riders. J
