Stock sale

by David of RIC Reflecting the quality of stock yarded, prices at last Thursday's Waimarino stock sale were very mixed. Prices fetched for cattle sold were entirely dependent on age and condition, according to the auctioneer, from Waimarino Livestock. Two-and-a-half year old steers fetched up to $795 while yearling steers reached $520. Well-presented two-year-old bulls made a good

sale of $550, while the heifers ranged from $270 to $300. Because of the Islamic festival of Haj, the yarding of wethers had eased off as live exports over this period are reduced. Lamb prices were good however, and sold very strongly, with the medium quality animals fetching $34 and the smaller lambs selling at around $20. Overall, definite results from a fairly small sale and low numbers yarded.
