Church in business

While much is being said about unemployment, a local church group is doing something about it. The. Ruapehu Apostolic Outreach Centre has started a small business, making vegetable bins for local growers - an enterprise that follows on from the successful voluntary help scheme which has been operating for some time. Under the scheme people such as Rene Vlaanderen and Warren Bennellick (pictured) have been doing volun-

tary work for various individuals and groups around Ohakune, and many of these have given donations to the church, which in turn has been paid to the men involved. The latest effort was organised to provide some work for out-of-work seasonal workers,

building the bins. A number of carrot and potato growers have placed orders for the lo-cally-produced binds, while other orders are being finalised, said church pastor, John Mason. The centre is looking for other work and if any reader has a job that needs doing and could use

some help, they can call Pastor John Mason, 3858 121. "It is not the role of the Church to criticise any Government for their attempts to help the (unemployment) situation," said Pastor John. "The Church should be leading the way as God's people."
