Waimarino A&P Show & Waimarino Shears

Raetihi's 100 years' celebrations continue at the Waimarino Agricultural and Pastoral Show this weekend with a 100 years parade.

The show usually includes the grand parade, including competitors, and this year is no exception. But leading into the Grand Parade is to be

a procession commemorating 100 years of Raetihi history. The special parade starts from the council offices, proceeds up Seddon Street to the Parapara Road, then along to the main gate of the Showgrounds. Families of the original settlers of Raetihi have been invited to build floats with a centennial theme, for the parade to be a special feature. Hospital staff and BNZ staff are also preparing a float, and horse drawn vehicles, pack horses will be included. Many old cars and trucks which are still in everyday use in the streets of Raetihi will be there, as will vintage vehicles such as the old Raetihi Volunteer Fire Brigade engines. As in most years, a good number of entries in the horse events are expected by organisers. "And the home brew beer and wine making competition is on again this year - that's always popular," said show secretary Bernice Frost. "Make sure you put that in the paper!" Entries for the brewing section should be in by 10am on Show day morning. Another popular event with families is the pet parade, at 12.30pm. Pet lambs have been missed from recent parades, so they are especially welcome, said Bernice. The sideshows will be there along with lots of stalls. "Here's an invitation to anyone who wants to set up a stall - ring me at Waimarino Livestock to book your space," she said. Stalls already expected will sell food, cottage industry products, produce including locally produced Continued top right

honey, and many more. Don't miss the produce shed where local gardeners and preservers will be vying for prizes. With

the poor summer growing season it will be interesting to see how the area's top gardeners manage to still produce winning crops.
