Conservation board places
Applications for places on the Taranaki/ Wanganui Conservation Board are now open. "This is the public 's chance to be involved in major decisions directly affecting the future of the region's 280,873 hectares of publicly owned conservation land, including two national parks," said regional conservator Bill Carlin. "Conservation boards have a policy on planning input into major conservation issues in the region and can make recommendations
to the Minister as well as making some key decisions. They are vital to the approval of DoC's planning documents." He said during the past 13 years the board has been involved in: a major public awareness exercise to help the public understand DoC's role in conservation and the need for public input; gathering public comments for the 10-year planning strategy, the CMS; an investigation of areas for addition to the Whanganui National Park; Progress on the Drop Scene Walkway at Pipiriki.
