Waimarino works on wish list
Playground improvements, fixing of swimming pools, footpaths and some road sealing work were among items considered to be high priority for spending in the 1993-94 year by the Waimarino Community Board at their last meeting. This time round the council has called for public submissions much earlier so that the community boards can prioritise spending items, the
council can then work out its draft annual plan, and then give the public time for further input. While in the past the board's annual plan recommendations have been almost always accepted, the full Ruapehu District Council still has the final say on what is included in the plan. High priority The board decided the following items proposed through the public submissions process,
should be given high priority: Safety matting at the Jubilee Park playground plus regular maintenance of playground equipment to a safe standard, proposed by C Horne. Estimated cost: $2945, which takes into account the offer from Ohakune Plunket to contribute $4000, plus assistance with labour from the Ruapehu Lions. Development of the vacant Raetihi
Playground with new equipment, proposed by the Waimarino Community Health Watch Committee. Estimated cost: $7511 taking into account community assistance. (see story previous Bulletin). Repairing leaks in the Ohakune Swimming Pool, proposed by J Bates. Estimated cost: $3500. Three judder bars for the Rimu Street,
Ohakune, loop, proposed by J & M Jackson. Estimated cost: $870. A turning area for the end of Smith's Road, off the Raetihi-Ohakune road, proposed by V M Cripp. Estimated cost: $5220. 'Welcome to Raetihi* signs, estimated to cost $2000 for two signs. Low priority The board decided the following items, proposed through the public submissions process, were of low priority for the 1993/94 annual plan. Mowing the grass verge in Tawhero Street, proposed by K Young,
estimated to cost $4400. Improvements to the Ohakune Industrial Area (proposed by Richard Hoadley), which would include cleaning open drains, weed control, upgrading access to the river, and Station Road grass verge, estimated to cost $29,700. Sealing Rimu Street, Ohakune, loop and removing hump at Thames St, proposed by P Abel. Estimated cost: $16,200. The development of a children 's play area in Christie Park, Ohakune, proposed by C Home. Upgrading of the heating system in the Raetihi Rugby Clubrooms, proposed by the club. Estimated cost: $8460. Heating and covers for the Ohakune Swimming Pool, proposed by J Bates. Estimated cost: $3500. 1992 items, high priority The following items, brought forward from the 1992/93 annual planning process were given high priority by the board: Foyle Street, Ohakune, kerb and channel work. Estimated cost: $25,000. Improvements to the older section of the Ohakune Cemetery. The board decided this was high priority but limited to grazing and spraying. Estimated cost: $3000. 1992 items, low priority The following items, brought forward from the 1992/93 annual planning process were given low priority by the board: Shape correction and tree removal on Pipiriki Road, including widening of the road. Estimated cost: $7880. Extra maintenance beyond the end of the
Mangapurua Road. Estimated cost: $11,800. Items from the Board, high priority Members of the Waimarino Community Board made individual submissions to the annual plan. The following were considered high priority: Sealing Golf Links Road, Makaranui, two chain in length. Estimated cost: $2126. Smiths Road seal extension. The board decided this work could be broken into two stages, the first from Ohakune - Raetihi Road to the bridge, and stage two from the bridge to Geraghty's Gate. Stage two was to be higher priority. Estimated cost of both stages: $136,350. Road widening at the entrance to the Ruatiti Domain. Estimated cost: $4500. Seddon Street, Raetihi, resealing and improving the retail area footpaths from Ward Street to Duncan Street. It was considered that the southern side was high priority. Estimated cost: $9650. Daily street maintenance and refuse collection in high visual Waimarino urban areas. Estimated cost: $28,080 per year. A water pressure gauge at the Raetihi Fire Station. Estimated cost: $3500. Spraying noxious weeds on roads and reserves. Estimated cost: $2200. Low priority The following items, submitted by individual board members were considered low priority: Road stabilisation through an extended poplar planting programme (medium prior-
ity). Estimated cost: $3000. Additional access to the Whanganui River at Pipiriki, to ease congestion at busy times when too many people are using the available ramps and roads. Estimated cost: $10,000. Seal extension, Loop Road to wharf and boat ramp, Pipiriki. Estimated cost: $28,350. Improve landscaping at the Waimarino dump sites with tree planting. Estimated cost: $500. Items from officers Submissions were also received from the Ruapehu District Council's Technical Services Directorate officers. High priority The following TSD items were considered high priority: Labour for Christmas Trees in Ohakune and Raetihi. Estimated cost: $1200. Extensions to Raetihi footpaths, 80 metres on Parapara Road and 88m on Hukaroa Road. Estimated cost: $4368. Extensions to Ohakune footpaths, 100m in Miro Street and 100m in Tainui Street. Estimated cost: $5200.
Ngapaki Road seal extension. Estimated cost: $2500. Ohakune Swimming Baths painting of the pool. Estimated cost: $3000. Raetihi Swimming Baths, repairing leaks and painting. Estimated cost: $6500. Subsoil drainage in conjunction with the Hukuroa Road footpath project. Estimated cost: $360.
Low priority Tawhero Street Ohakune, water main. Estimated cost: $28,500. Mangateitei Terrace, Ohakune - upgrading access and improve the area for mowing, with trees being donated by Wanganui Motors. Deemed medium priority, Estimated cost: $1200 for access upgrade, $2000pa for mowing.
