Waiouru work discussed

By

Jan

Savell

The Waiouru Community Board met on Tuesday 8 December to discuss and prioritise their recommendations to the Ruapehu District Council for funding in the 1993/1994 year. A sewerage diversion line, vandal-proof rubbish bins and improved street lighting for State Highway 49 and Ngauruhoe Street West were given high priority. Roading was also discussed at length with a special recommendation for extra funds to allow an upgrade of the section of Rangipo Street, where large trucks turn into the 24-hour service station, and the re-sealing of Ngauruhoe Street West. The Community Board recommended that the 70

km/h speed sign presently 80m north of Andrews Drive be moved 200 further south to further limit the speed of passing motorists. Reversible 50/70 km/h speed limit signs were thought to be needed for the entrances to Ruanui, Rangipo and Ngauruhoe Streets.
