Wanted: events ideas

Ideas for special events that would add excitement and interest to the local scene as well as attract people from outside the area are being called for by the Ohakune Development Team. The group, which came together following the Ohakune planning and development ideas meeting held earlier this year, is able to apply for funds j from the Community Employment Development Unit. "We want ideas from the community on what sort of events the community wants," said a spokesperson. "We feel any event that was organised would have a much better chance of success if it is supported ; by the community." "It could be a sporting event like a car rally, or it could be a festival type event like the annual carrot festival." The group asks anyone with ideas to drop them into the Ruapehu Visitors' Centre, Clyde Street. Altematively letters to the editor can be sent to the Ruapehu Bulletin.
