Fire Report

By

DavtooftheRIC

Two major incidents were attended by the Raetihi Volunteer Fire Brigade last week a road accident south of Raetihi and a fire at the Raetihi Primary School. The accident occurred at about 6.45pm on Tuesday 1 December, and involved two cars which collided near Kakatahi School. Ambulance officer Philip Beer said the injured passengers and drivers " were transported to Wanganui Base Hospital by private vehicle, and the Fire Brigade officers removed the vehicles and debris and hosed petrol from the road surface. The accident

is under police investigation. Sunday 29 November a call was received to attend a fire at Raetihi Primary School, where a neighbour had seen smoke from the grounds near a building. Police were also in attendance. The fire was confined to a rubbish bin and fire officers believe it was probably started by a discarded cigarette or match. No evidence was found to prove or disprove accident or intent, according to a Police spokesman, who added that a function was taking place at the school at the time of the incident.
