Waimarino Block Meeting of owners and descendants. Raetihi Marae 1 0am 28 November 1 992 Agenda: For some time, the Whanganui IWI, through the Whanganui Whare Wananga Trust (Inc) and the Whanganui River Maori Trust Board, have been negotiating with the Crown with regard to perceived injustices committed by the crown during the original purchase of the Waimarino block in 1886 and 1887. The negotiators and Crown have now developed a framework agreement covering the claim that requires the ratification of the owners and descendants of the original block. As well, the Crown requires an absolute assurance that it is negotiating with the acknowledged representatives of the owners and their descendants. Thus attendance at this Hui of as many owners and descendants as possible is essential if negotiations are to proceed smoothly. If you are unsure of your potential ownership, the original list of owners may be obtained from the Maori Land court, Wanganui City, which will also hold a copy of the original NZ Gazette notice giving the block's boundaries (dated 24 may 1887 Page 677). For those descendants of that portion of the Aotea (Rohe Potae) block that was included within the Waimarino Block, and for which lists of owners were not presented at the court hearing of 16 March 1886, please attend, as satisfaction of the claim must incorporate your approval. For those descendants of the 'Landless Natives' that wandered the northern Waimarino as late as 1910, Kai Ora, greetings to your dead, we would see your attendance as essential. This meeting is the fjrst of three to attempt ratification of the framework agreement re: Waimarino block. Subsequent meetings will be held to ratify the agreement in principle and final agreement stages, should negotiations proceed that far. Please note: Representatives of the media are not invited to attend but local non-lwi, and that includes everyone in the district, are welcome to attend, listen and comment, but not to vote on the ratification. If you are attending this Hui please advise : The Secretary Whanganui Whare Wananga Trust (Inc) 4 Conway St Ohakune Ph 06-3858 258 Signed D Robinson Chairman, WWWT A Taiaroa Chairman WRMTB
