Big bikes to visit Raetihi
The Ulysses Motor Bikers Club will be riding into Raetihi on Saturday 23 January 1993 as a fund-raising venture for the proposed Waimarino Rest Home and as part of the Raetihi Township 100-years Centenary. This Club is renowned for the magnificent motor cycles owned by club members. "It will be a great sight to see these Harley Davidsons and huge Hondas, along with others riding through the main shopping area," said Faith Wise, rest home trust fundraiser. One of the conditions of membership in the Ulysses Club is that members must be over the age of 50. The club takes part in many events throughout the country and in particular fundraising for charities. An invitation was forwarded to the club Guidelines update 'Guidelines' is published free of charge by the Bulletin each week as a community service. inviting them to ride into Raetihi for what is to be* called the 'Mashed Murphy and Chip Rally', for which an official badge will be cast to commemorate the event. It is hoped that the 'run' will become an annual event for future fund-rais-ing events for the rest home. Ulysses Club members will assemble in Ohakune at 12.30.This will give the people from Ohakune and surrounding districts a chance to view the bikes before they ride to Raetihi. They will be stopped on the outskirts of Raetihi where a Maori challenge will be issued followed by a welcome from the Mayor Garrick Workman. It is hoped that items will be given by a local Maori concert party as part of the welcome. The riders will then ride down the main shopping street in formation and then return to park the bikes in a building where the public can view the bikes for a small charge. An evening meal and breakfast the following morning will be sup-
plied by the rest home committee at a charge to the riders, with all monies going towards funds for the home. Most riders will be staying overnight and many have past connections with Raetihi and no doubt will participate with the evening celebrations. The Waimarino pig hunting club has donated two wild pigs towards the evening meal.
