Taking a well-earned rest last Tuesday are from left, Dave and Cliff Mills from Hamilton and Main Trunk Rail Ohakune (MTRO) man Warren Bennelick of Ohakune. They had been loosening the metal ballast around the sleepers and track leading from the Main Trunk Line to Ohakune's turntable which is expected to be commissioned soon. The tamping and compacting machine at back is a $2 million 'Beaver' juggernaut which lifts the entire track, then probes and vibrates the ballast before lowering and compacting the rail into position.
