I The Raetihi Combined I Bowling Club held its I opening tournament on I Sunday 25 October which saw competitors from the local region and as far I away as Hunterville, I Owhango and Wanganui coming to play in an exI citing series of matches. With the fine weather I in the moming the three I full games were played I before the lunch break, I leaving only two games I to be played after lunch. Unfortunately rain I that afternoon stopped I the final game with only I four ends remaining to be I played. Since there were I four teams each having I four wins, it was decided I to cut cards to decide the I outcome of the tournaI ment. The winning team was I that of Tony Mosead, Dianne Martin, Pat Whale and June Mosen. The running-up team was Colin Cox, Pauline LeNoel, Bobby Brown and Roy Bodgen. The women went to Wanganui East recently to play against that club for the Simmonson Cup, which they brought to Raetihi after a decisive win. Already, they have played a challenge match from the Cauis Avenue Club of Wanganui on 30 October, which was won by 30 to 18 by the Raetihi team of Robyn Scarrow, Pauline LeNoel, Dianne Martin and Cath Bowater, who are confident of keeping the cup for the season. The next local tournament is to be held at the Club greens in Raetihi on Saturday 14 November at 9.30am.
