Cadetship offered
The Ruapehu District Council is to offer young men or women of the Ruapehu District the opportunity of cadetship training next year. Two cadets are to be taken on in 1993 to work in finance and administration. Appointments will be made in January/February each year and will be offered to school-leavers or students who have completed a full year at a technical institute or polytechnic. The cadets will be based in Taumarunui, however it is hoped to employ one of the two cadets from the
southern part of the District. The cadets will be able to gain a relevant tertiary qualification while being provided with full on-the-job training in either the finance or administration areas of the Council's operation. The two successful applicants will be offered the cadetship for a term of three years. During this period cadets will be released from council duties for on-campus training and also for a halfday per week for study leave. In addition financial assistance will be given to cover the cost of
courses taken. In-house training provided by Council will ensure the cadets gain experience across a wide range of activities. At the completion of the three years training employment with the Council will be offered provided the cadets' progress and performance have been satisfactory. Council's chief executive, Cliff Houston, said the cadet programme will encourage the retention of local people in local employment whilst developing their skill base to the fullest possible extent.
