• The only way to describe the past two weeks is awful. Three fatal motor accidents have occurred in our area during this time. The first accident, which has already been reported, was that of a 37 year old man who died after a truck and van collided near Deacons Road, south of Waiouru. The second accident occurred on Wednesday 28 October when a 35year old Auckland man died after his vehicle plunged 150m over a bank at Mulvay's Corner south of Waiouru. The man's body was found washed down stream about 300 metres from his vehicle. It is believed that the accident occurred sometime during the
early hours of Wednesday morning and he had been dead about 12 hours. A passing motorist had noticed a gap in the fence and the vehicle could be seen at the bottom of the ravine. The next day, a 21year old man from Paeroa, was killed instantly when he lost control of his vehicle north of the summit on the Desert Road and was thrown from the car. His two passengers were unhurt. Once again, wearing
a seat belt could quite possible have saved this person 's life. Last week, 18-year old Craftsman Martin from WTD, an Army recruit collapsed and died during a 12-kilometre fitness test. This was a tragic incident and the Police extend their sympathies to his family, the Army and his fellow soldiers. • A pyramid-type game is currently doing the rounds in Waiouru. We understand that a large number of foolish people are already involved in it. We strongly advise those people to discontinue their association with this game and those persons contemplating getting involved are advised not to. They
are nothing but scams and are dangerous. The camp commandant has already voiced his concerns about the game and we have been in touch with the Hamilton Fraud Squad. You have been warned. • Now is the time when all good cannabis growers are out and about planting their crops. If you are out hunting in the area, or the local farmers find such plantations, we would appreciate any information. Confidentially if you wish. • Last Saturday night, after the Round the Mountain Relay function, some undesirable persons threw large conTum to page 4
Police file From page 3 crete blocks through the windows of the Vegie Barn and the video shop in the Community Centre. Nothing appears to have been taken from these premises, but we would still like any information. Your windows could be next if we don't catch the offenders. • On a lighter note, Constable Pat Tasker has finally produced some evidence of his claim to bravery and heroism, in the form of a tee-shirt and certificate showing that he has successfully completed a bungy jump in full police mess kit after losing a bet. His workmates are still suspicious of the validity of his claims. Enquiries are continuing. • Have a safe week.
