Madonna
• Well Madonna must be laughing up her sleeve at the fortune she is making for her book at a cool $75 a copy. We've seen enough on TV and in the paper to realise that this is pretty sick stuff, too sick for Whitcoulls, but the media gullibly take it up like a sponge. Who reading this now would want their family or friends to know they had spent $75 on this one-track book? Whelher we like it or not, some things are just plainly immoral, however many people pursue them. The sad fact is that Madonna is not just a person. She, and the organisation behind her, and using her, are a business and a very lucrative one at that. What does Madonna care about your childrcn's character formation? We have a fine country here, great potentiality, so let us be aware of very real corruptive influences around us this day and
agc. It is sad to scc many video hire shops contributing to this influence, including our own in Ohakune here. I have not seen Raetihi's, but I appcal to management and staff of both, in the intcrests of a fair-go for our children and youth, to be awarc of ihe grave responsibility that is yours in this trade. I appeal to you particularly to apply the age-rcstrictions firmly. These are quite liberal as it is. I urge parents to monitor carefully what your children are watching. I regrct being so negative, as there is so much good out there, so many good values and standards, so much good reading, so many good vidcos and so many, many good people, that it isn't funny lo be subjccted to this other dcgrading, distortcd stuff. Think about it. Let's not sell our souls, or the souls of our future generation, to the Madonna's of this world.
