Summer marketing popular

A meeting of the District's tourism operators held last Tuesday night (13 October) at the Grand Chateau was attended by 24 enthusiastic operators wishing to par-

ticipate in a Summer Ruapehu marketing campaign which is currently being co-ordinated by Ruapehu District Council marketing manager Bruce Rollinson.

Discussion at the meeting focused on a campaign plan which was presented by Mr Rollinson. This plan outlined where the $500 contribution by opera-

tors wishing to participate in the campaign is to be allocated. The production of a brochure will be central to the campaign and will be complemented by advertising, publicity, media visits to the area and the attendance to the Air and Travel Expo in Auckland during November. An effective distribution network for the brochure was the key to ensuring that target markets are in fact being exposed to the information. The budget produced for the campaign was calculated on the basis that a

minimum of twenty operators would be required to proceed with the campaign. A show of hands at the meeting indicated this figure had already been achieved. It was resolved that the minutes of the meeting be circulated to all operators in the district not present at the meeting to give them the opportunity to participate. A deadline of Wednesday 21 October has been set as a date to have all participation forms returned to Mr Rollinson to ensure the timing of the campaign can commence in early November 1992.
