Cable TV via KCE ?
Cable TV including a local channel could be available in Taumarunui, Turangi and Ohakune if proposals put before King Country Energy come to fruition. The promoter, Kiwi Cable Co Ltd, is currently installing a similar service in Paraparaumu. King Country Energy 's directors were told that such a service can break even when five customers per kilometre of line take up the cable service. Satellite dishes could also be made available for farmers. Kiwi Cable Co Ltd would provide the signal and expertise, while
King Country Energy would erect and maintain the liners, for which they would receive an annual rental on a per pole basis. The board was told that Kiwi Cable Co Ltd wanted a two year option to prove the venture, which would be operated by a local company. The promoter is to be invited to attend a King Country Energy board meeting to further dis cuss the cable TV proposals. From the board's point of view, the cable TV option offers an opportunity to make much greater use of an existing asset.
