New pay system for Army

The Army has a new fully-automated payroll system which will put New Zealand soldiers 20 years ahead of their American counterparts. The system is fully automated but what makes it unique is that it is driven by the existing administration computer system. "The Army was determined to have one administrative computer system that would run everything," said W02 Paul Lumsden, Regional Pay Services Advisor for the Army Training Group. Soldiers will receive their first pay packet courtesy of the new system on 1 October. W02 Lumsden says some of the clerks in orderly rooms are unhappy about the introduction of payroll duties into their work but believes that the reluctance will quickly vanish. "This new system functions even if the clerks are slow to update information. With the previous system if things weren't done the soldier could end up being paid nothing. "
