Riding to finish

by

Ron

Cheatley

• Week 6: This week and week 8 will be the hardest weeks but remember 'It wasn't meant to be easy' and the actual ride will be more than five hours, but "what an achievement!" Monday 19 - One hour easy low gear ride (to recover after your long Sunday ride). Tuesday 20 - Two and a half hours, do a good solid ride wherever your feel and at the pace you feel comfortable with. Wednesday 21 - One and a half hours, as for Monday but some hils are necessary. Thursday 22 - As for Tuesday. Friday 23 - One hour, easy pace, low gear (Parapara Road). Saturday 24 - Club race starts at Toro St, Durie

Hill, 1.30pm, 4km or do a two hour ride on your own. Sunday 25 - Three 1 to three and a half hour group ride, take a short break after two and a half hours if you need to. Points • Ensure you are keeping your fluid intake up on the bigger rides, a small drink every 15 minutes is about right. Also take some food (eg bananas, 'Exceed' energy bars, fruit cake). • If you are getting a sore lower back just lift your handle-bar stem up a little and tip the nose of your seat up slightly. • Ensure your chain and derailleur jockey wheels are kept clean and well lubricated (but not too much oil) to prevent, friction, 'Tri Flow' is the bcst lubricant.
