Campfire for Waiouru girls

B\

r Jan

Savell

The 1992 New Zealand Guide, Brownie and Pippin promotion week began in Waiouru on Sunday. A moming church service was followed by a campfire afternoon. The 'campfire' was held in the Primary School Hall and a general invitation was issued to the Waiouru public. Over 50 people came to join in with songs, activities and games. At the end of the afternoon Col John Masson presented prizes and awards to entrants in the colouring competition. "What I like most about .guides/brownies/pippins" was the topic. Judges commented on the high standard of the entries.

The church parade included the presentation of colours to the Waiouru Guides, Brownies and Pippins. This was the first time they had been seen in public in Waiouru. At the St James chapel the Guides led parts of the service and even taught some new songs to the congregation.
