Raetihi to be auctioned?
• On 10 September a further meeting was held in Raetihi to discuss the observance of the first 80 quarter acre sections ever to have been sold in Raetihi on 9 February 1893. It was resolved that this historical event should be recognised by a function held in Raetihi on Saturday 23 January 1993. There were various suggestions put forward by those attending the meeting and one option was that a mock auction of the 1893 sale be held in Seddon Street and a commemorative title be given to the decendants of the original purchasers of the sections sold. Research of the titles was undertaken by Mrs D Battersby (nee Punch). Mrs Battersby will be very glad to receive any information which will lead to the identification of decendants of the orig-
inal settlers in the 1890's. Organisations within the town and immediate district are being asked to observe the event by
writing a short history of their club, society or association and submit them to Mr J Robinson (Box 22, Raetihi) who will see that they are pub-
lished in local papers and hopefully in a booklet for a general reference of the history of our town. Further organisations are urged to offer to their members a competition or event which will recognise the centenary. Such events could be held
between October 1992 and March 1993. The next meeting of Raetihi 100 years will be held in the Waimarino Club at 8pm on 8 October and all interested persons are welcome to attend
