Summer skiing

by

Marnie

After last year's inaugural opening, Whakapapa Skifield will be open again this year for Christmas skiing. The Whakapapa season officially closes on November 15, but Marketing manager Scott Lee said depending on snow and weather conditions the skifield will definitely be open again this Christmas. Whakapapa manage-

ment were caught slightly off guard last year when thousands of people flocked to take advantage of the summer skiing. Ruapehu Alpine Lifts have operated their chairlifts for trampers, climbers and sightseers for the past ; three years, and because there was still metres of snow on the upper slopes last year decided to run the Knoll Ridge and Te Heu Heu T Bars and Cinder Track Platter for skiing.
