Goat shoot
The Taumarunui Rod Rifle and Gun Club, in conjunction with the Department of Conservation is holding a goat shoot in Tongariro Forest on the weekend of 3 and 4 October. The goat shoot will help the Department of Conservation control feral goats in Tongariro Forest and provides opportunities for hunters to join in the activity. It is a good opportunity for budding young hunters to come along and learn pointers from the experienced hunters. Participants are organised in teams and will hunt different areas of the forest where mobs of goats are known to be present. Many club members from around the area are expected to attend and non-club members are also welcome. Hunters must be equipped with a centre-fire hunting rifle and a motor bike or quad
for transportation into the hunting areas is desirable but not essential. Spot prizes will be awarded for various achievements and a barbeque and social event will be held at the Owhango Rugby Clubrooms on Saturday evening. The hunting starts each day from the clubrooms at 8 am. Anyone interested should contact Dick Scheyvens on 07-8966-678 for further information.
