Waimarino Community Board candidates
Raymond Berry, Waimarino Community Board Raymond is 32 years old and a sheep and beef farmer from Raetihi married with three children. He was born in Raetihi and attended the Raetihi Primary School, Ruapehu College and Massey University obtaining a B.AG.Sc. Raymond's family connections in local body politics include his great-grandfather (Ohakune riding) grandfather (Waimarino County Councii) and father (Waimarino County Councii). Raymond is a member of the Waimarino Branch of the New Zealand Deerstalkers Association, currently holding the position of secretary/treasurer. He believes in the concept of a strong community board as being one of the best ways to have matters of local interest put before the Ruapehu District Councii. Raymond feels the local community board has done a very good job in the past of liaising between the public and the Ruapehu District Councii and feels it is important that this role continues. He feels some excellent candidates have put their names forward for this year's election and if elected he would be happy to work and serve alongside them. Peter Bishop Waimarino Community Board
Aged 54 and groundsman at Ruapehu College Peter feels that after many years of letter writing to the papers complaining about the disgusting way ratepayers are being treated when they ask for something to be done for the rates they pay, the only way to get the message across is to get closer to the powers that be. Although a community board member is at the lower end of the power scale if elected Peter says he will not back down or be told to be quiet on any issue that he brings up. He would not be a 'yes' man to anyone and if any other board or councii members did not like his style he would not be worried he feels it is the wishes of the ratepayers that matter. Peter J Feickert, Waimarino Community Board Peter wishes to put his name forward as a candidate for the coming election of the Waimarino Community Board of the Ruapehu District Councii. He sees the Waimarino District has enormous potentiai for tourism, horticulture and agriculture, and feels this is under-estimated by some of the residents. The issues he is concemed with are responsible representation to be made on behalf of the people for: • Weed and pest control. • Good access maintained to rural people. • The reticulation of energy to remote areas. • The preservation of public reserves and land for recreational use. • To encourage rural re-population. Peter feels the number one issue is to make sure that ratepayers funds are spent wisely within the ward and that public amenities don't deteriorate in the Ohakune and Raetihi districts.

I have again made myself available as a candidate for the Waimarino Community Board because I feel that the real purpose of the board has been established over the last three years. Our role is expanding all the time with issues important to the Waimarino area requiring a real impact from our Community Board. It has become more apparent than ever that we retain some continuity from the present board as well as some
new blood to vitalise the required outlook. With the Ruapehu District Councii administration domiciled in
Taumarunui the necessity for a coherent and progressive thinking board is paramount. I have found the last
three years a real challenge and at times frustrating but achievements have also been rewarding.
With your support I am sure we can continue to produce the progress and results you are looking for.
