• A number of cars were broken into at the carpark opposite the Ohakune Hotel on Clyde Street on Saturday night. Thieves stole a range of items from cassettes to jackets, and an ice axe. Some of these items were later recovered from a stolen car that collided with a fence in Rimu Street. The gold Holden Kingswood was taken from the same car-park on Clyde Street about the same time as the other cars were broken into. Police are following a strong line of enquiry. • Later that night another Holden got stuck near the Rimu Park Lodge. One of the occupants of the car then stole the lodge owner's Toyota Landcruiser. Constable Stuart Ngatai said the owner chased the thieves in another vehicle down to Thames Street at the Junction. The offenders came to a standstill when they drove into a parked jeep. After jumping out, they were chased across the railway lines toward Railway Row. Police dogs tracked the offender to one of the houses. Mr Ngatai said the police are continuing their enquiries. • About $5000 worth of ski clothing was stolen from the Powderhorn ski shop early Sunday morning after thieves smashed two small windows facing Mangawhero Terrace. The offenders reached through the wire mesh and took about 18 jackets. • A motorcyclist coming off his bike led to a five car collision near Horopito on Friday evening. Traffic officer Ian Harrison said the collision happened because motorists were travelling too closely. Two people were treated for minor injuries at the Waimarino Health Centre. • A family had their skiing holiday cut short when the car they were travelling in was shunted into a power pole on Goldfinch Street, Ohakune at 10am on Friday. They had slowed down to avoid a dog crossing the road when a car driven by a young local man struck them from behind. Both cars were extensively damaged and a young girl in the first car was taken to Wanganui Hospital, Mr Harrison said. Power supply to that area of Ohakune was disrupted for most of the day. The young man will face charges arising from the incident, said Mr Harrison.
