Power use down
Domestic customers in King Country Energy's area saved about 10 per cent in overall consumption during the July power crisis period. General manager Peter Till told the August board meeting that saies had increased again after the official wind-down of the crisis, but were now still 3-4 per cent behind the same period as last year. "Unit saies were well down in July, with the accommodation industry showing the largest drop.
Domestic saies were down around 10 per cent and the accommodation industry down a little more." Mr Till said industrial saies were up because of the earlier start to the ski season. King Country Energy had to pay about $100,000 less for electricity brought from ECNZ and was still making savings by foregoing spot market purchases. Overall generation at
Kuratau in the first six months of the year was up 27.67 per cent Correction Last week's Bulletin article on Ruapehu District Council rates payment options contained an error. The discount for early payment of 1992-93 rates in full is to be three per cent, not 16 per cent as published. The Bulletin apologizes to readers for the error.
