Tumblers do well at Nationals

On the weekend of 1 August, seven Turoa Tumblers joined forces with the members of the Manawatu - Wanganui gymnastics team in Nelson to compete in the New Zealand Junior National Teams competition. Shelly Gotlieb competing in grade five was in the second placed team. Kerri Allerby competing in grade six was in the fourth placed team. Scott Nation, Andrew Murdie and John Hays were also in a team placed fourth. Dwayne Marsh and Brian Hays in grade eight finished in seventh position. All the gymnasts did well and were a credit to their club and association, said a club officer. Other highlights of the trip were the crossing of Cook Strait on the ferries. The crew of the Aratika allowed the travellers to visit the bridge and the helmsman let the children try steering the ship. The ten pin bowling where the children gave all the adults a run for their money, was another high point. The low point was when one of the vans broke down just out of Nelson and had to miss the early ferry. However thanks to the AA they managed to get the later one and arrived home very late on Monday morning.
