College Soccer
Faced with yet another default from a Collegiate team when due to play in Ohakune the Ruapehu team decided to travel down to Wanganui as the Collegiate Rangers side would then be able to play. Determined to make their ninth and final trip to Wanganui worthwhile they scored 8 goals in the first half, with no less than 7 players scoring. In an attempt to level things a little, vice captain Avinesh Sharma offered to play for the opposing side for the second half. Fittingly he scored for the Collegiate in the first minute of the second half. Ruapehu
then regained their ascendency to score four more times to finish 12-1 up at the final whistle. Ironically the Collegiate coach who was unable to travel to Ohakune because he was organising the catering at a function for 80 adults later that day was unable to organise any for the Ruapehu team who had offered to travel for the sixth Collegiate team game in Wanganui after three defaults in Ohakune out of the three scheduled games there. Ruapehu have ended up clear leaders in the UD competition although a final points table is not available.
Ladies Golf Bad weather dogged the footsteps of the golfers last week. A few hardy ones finished their rounds on Sunday. The Silver Pennent team playing at Marton on Monday managed to play their foursomes before the course became too wet. The singles from this round will be played in September. Wednesday ladies fared no better having rain, hail and strong winds. Congratulations went to P. Mowat and N. Cranston for their successes at T aumaranui.
