Future team re-groups
Ohakune' s Community Development Team has regrouped, and decided to break into project teams. The team was formed out of the Ohakune planning evening held some months ago, and at that stage the participants decided to stick together as- tme group and take on the project of helping. organise the mid-term break shop day. The intention was to start with a small project, make it successful, and move onto bigger things from there. Shortly after that, numbers and interest in the team waned, so it was decided to call back Community Employment Development Unit man Garry Towler, to hold a
'regrouping session'. This meeting, held last Thursday night, was to look1 at what had been achieved and at ways to rekindle enthusiasm. Three project teams were formed - one to look at special events, one for recreational facilities and one for town growth. It was decided that the teams will research their topics and come back to a later meeting with a set of ideas and options for the future for Ohakune. The special events team will look at existing events and possible ways of improving them as well as possible extra events. The recreational facilities team will look at the ice skating rink and cultural centre ideas. The town growth will look at the Community
Employment Development Unit's 'Mainstreet' project, which offers ways to boost the business sector of the town, for the sake of the local community as well as business. Ideas to be looked at for this include planting, better paving, establishing small, sunny park-like spots for people to sit, unifying the style of a commercial buildings ■ and providing verandahs ■ in key spots.
